Keep Yourself Safe this Winter
We often forget how dangerous slipping and falling can be. The estimates of deaths and injuries per year occur from slips and falls. It happens anywhere you are either at work, on the road, or in your house. Here are some tips oh how to keep yourself self this winter. PLAN AHEAD Allow plenty of time for driving safely to your destination. Equip your vehicle with emergency supplies. Dress for winter weather. Remove snow and salt walkways at home for yourself and little ones. THINK ABOUT WALKING SAFELY... .....As you get out of your car. Step, don't jump. Use the vehicle for support. .....As you leave the building to go home. Make it a safe walk to the car. .....As you go outside for a break if you are at work. USE PROPER WINTER WALKING TECHNIQUES Never run and always look ahead. Take short, flat-footed steps. Keep your center of gravity over the feet. Test potential slick spots with one foot. Keep both hands free for balance. Never carry something that blocks your view. PAY ATTENTION TO WALKWAY MAINTENANCE Keep walkways clear of debris, water, and ice. Know where the SALT is and use it. Ensure walk areas are well lit with lights timed correctly. Wipe your feet on doormats and clean up indoor floor moisture. Use walkways clear from potential slip hazards, snow , and ice. Stay on designated paths during authorized break times. GET PROPER FOOTWEAR Wear shoes or boots with traction. Rubber and neoprene composite are the best. Avoid plastic and lether soles. Wear slip-resistant shoes indoors. USE TEAMWORK TO PREVENT INJURIES (if at work) Talk to each other about safety. Encourage each other to think and act safely. |
